International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT Hyderabad)

The International Institute of Information Technology (also known as IIIT Hyderabad or IIIT-H), located in Gachibowli, Hyderabad, is an autonomous university founded in 1998. It was initiated as a not-for-profit institute under public private partnership (N-PPP) with the support of the Government of Andhra Pradesh. It is the first IIIT to be set up under this model. Admission into IIIT-H is on the basis of ranks obtained in JEE. Some students are also accepted based on interviews or through the Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY).

IIIT-H has been accredited with Grade ‘A’ by the National Assessment & Accreditation Council (NAAC). Cybermetric Lab – the largest public research institution of Spain – ranks IIIT-H among the top 6 universities in South Asia in terms of published online research papers. It was recommended by the US’ National Science Foundation (NSF) for US graduate students as a premier research institution in India for taking up short-term research programmes and research fellowships. IIIT-H has been conducting Robocamp, a national level robotics workshop, every year since 2006.

Ranking Explanation
IIIT-H was ranked 17th among top engineering colleges in India by India Today magazine, 2017. The same year, Outlook magazine ranked it 11th among the top engineering colleges in India.
Location
IIIT-H is located on Gachibowli, an urban locality of Hyderabad. It lies on the route of the proposed metro rail. It is situated close to the popular HITEC City, which houses many software development centres of reputed companies like Microsoft, Motorola, GE Capital, Oracle Corporation, and Infosys.

Because of its close proximity to the new Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad, it is easily reachable from all parts of the country. Many research institutions like Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Development Banking (JNIDB), Indian School of Business (ISB), and Hyderabad Central University, are located close by.
Campus Infrastructure
IIIT-H has a large 66-acre campus with four large buildings inclusive of the administration blocks, academic blocks, a spacious library, and research labs. The academic building has tutorial rooms, lecture halls and labs. The computer laboratories are air-conditioned and well-equipped with the latest hardware and software.

All buildings and hostels are connected though an intranet. The campus is also equipped with high-bandwidth internet. Selected parts of the campus have Wi-Fi connectivity. All students are required to stay in campus hostels. There are two hostels for boys and one for girls. The campus has four vegetarian messes (North Mess, South Mess, Yuktahar Mess, and Mixed Mess). There is also a canteen and a couple of cafeterias on campus.
Facilities
IIIT-H has a bank extension counter, ATM machine, laundry services, and a stationary shop on campus. Researchers have 24-hour access to computer facilities. The library is large and has all necessary resources including reference books, literature books, text books, digital library, and more than 150 subscribed magazines and journals. The library is automated through the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) facility.

The institute provides facilities for several sports including basket ball, volley ball, cricket, table tennis, soccer, etc. It has an understanding with nearby stadiums for other sports such as hockey, swimming, and badminton. The hostels are provided with gymnasium facilities and a mini gym. All students can avail the services of a physical trainer provided by the institute. The institute encourages extracurricular activities through various clubs. Annual festivals such as Felicity are organised by the students.
Placements
Dataquest has placed IIIT-H among the top five premier engineering colleges in India since 2007 in terms of placements. In 2010, IIIT-H had the highest average compensation of Rs. 9 lakh for undergraduate students in India. The highest salary offered at IIIT-H placements in 2012 was $1, 37,000 USD (Rs 65 lakhs), while the average salary offered was Rs 9.5 lakh per annum. IIIT-H generally secures 100% placements for its undergraduate students. In Placement 2010, IIIT-H has recorded in India the highest average compensation of Rs.9 lac for the undergraduate students.
IIIT-H’s Placement 2009 was ranked Top 2, and ahead of six IITs, with 100% placement and an average compensation of Rs.6.1 lac, the highest among all technology schools in the country, by Mint-Cfore carried out Best Engineering Colleges’ Survey 2009.
In 2008, IIIT-H’s placement was ranked Top 2, ahead of six IITs, with an average compensation of Rs.7.2 lac, which was the second highest in the country, just behind IIT-Kharagpur’s Rs.7.4 lac. (Outlook-Synovate’s Top Engineering Colleges Survey 2008)
