Faculty of Law, Banaras Hindu University

The Law School is one of the earliest Faculties established in the Banaras Hindu University, when teaching started in 1921-22 academic session in two rooms borrowed from the Faculty of Arts. The time was 5 P.M and most of the Faculty members were part time teachers, mostly advocates of Allahabad High Courts. Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, the founder of this university, served for many years as Dean of Law School. The legal luminaries like Sir Ras Behari Ghosh and Sir Tej Bahadur Sapru, were the earlier Deans.

Location Information
BHU is located in the heart of the ancient city of Varanasi. It is well connected with roads and provides various other transport facilities. 
Campus Infrastructure
the infrastructureto cater to the needs of the students. All the laboratories are clean and well-maintained, and the computer labs are airconditioned. The library has a good number of books and is spacious enough to accommodate a large number of students.  IT-BHU is well known for sports and the infrastructure for extra-curricular activities is excellent. 
Faculty Commentary
The Law School is one of the earliest Faculties established in the Banaras Hindu University. It is one of the Six Universities in India to start Clinical Legal Services. All  the professors are highly qualified and are focused towards their teachings. The Law School has been pioneer in introducing full time three year LL.B course of studies and two year full time LL.M. programme. It has taken a lead and perhaps the only Law School in India in introducing two years full time special courses of LL.M. in Human Rights and Duties Educations.
Others Attendance
Students have to maintain at least 70% attendance overall, failing which they are barred from writing the papers. Subject-specific attendance is allowed to be around 50%, but the overall attendance should be above 70%.

Students gel with each other easily and this indicates that there is no regionalism or discrimination among the students.
Others Hangout
 It is a spiritual city with temples everywhere and so there are not  many places for the students to hang around.

Placements
Our University is imparting education to over 30000 students in different disciplines by conducting professional and other programmes spanning from Visual and Performing Arts to Medical and Engineering. Several new generation and innovative programmes on different streams are also being conducted.
The programmes of this University are designed in such a way so as to equip the participants to find their respective role in real life situations and enable them to face the challenges that pose. Students of most of the professional programmes of the University viz., Engineering graduates from IT, Medical graduates from IMS, Graduates from Institute of Agricultural Sciences, MBA students from the Faculty of Management Studies are getting placed in the Campus recruitments. Several other programmes like MPMIR, Tourism Management, Journalism Courses, MFC, students from visual and performing arts are also in great demand.
