Ethiraj College for Women

Ethiraj College for Women was established in 1948. It is an autonomous institution and is affiliated to the University of Madras. There are approximately 6500 students studying around 26 undergraduate courses in this college. Selection is on the basis of merit. Application forms are available in the month of May and classes commence soon after.The college maintains high academic standards. Students passing the examinations held by the college are conferred degrees by the University of Madras with the name of the college also indicated on the degree issued to them.

The college is ranked 19th in Science, 15th in Humanities and 27th In commerce at an all India level by India Today's Magazine poll in 2017. It was also given a five-star status by the NAAC. It has received the ‘College with Potential for Excellence’ award from the UGC. The college has a dedicated team of around 300 faculty members, who maintain academic excellence.
Location and Facilities
Situated in the heart of the city of Chennai on a 9 acre campus, the college stands self-contained with prestigious structures. It is this infrastructural facility and the vision which is kept up by the successive managements, principals, faculty and students which has gained for the college the five-star status from NAAC and the college with potential for excellence award from UGC.

The college offers a host of facilities for its students. They can participate in many activities like the NSS, NCC, Red Ribbon Club, Youth Red Cross, Ethics Club, Debating Club, Book Club, Adventure Club, Fine Arts Club, Film and TV Appreciation Club, Quiz Club and the Theatre Society.
Library
The college houses a large library in a three-storeyed building and provides a stunning range of library books and information services. Over 91,917 books and 52 print journals, apart from 6,000 online journals are offered by the library. The research wing also has doctoral and M.Phil dissertations for reference. Question banks and books for civil services examinations, bank entrance, TOEFL, GMAT, GRE, CAT, SAT, NET, SLET, etc., are also available. The conference/seminar hall is well equipped with an LCD, OHP, television, and multimedia systems. It also offers network resource sharing (internet center) and photo copying facilities.
Hostel
The college also provides a three-block hostel facility equipped with gym, reading and recreation rooms, spacious dining halls, and telecommunication facilities. The hostel also houses a full-time doctor, and many corporate hospitals are available in the vicinity for emergencies.Only after admission into the college, a student is eligible to seek admission into the hostel.
Placement
The placement cell in the college extends its services to help students of the final year in securing full-time job opportunities. It provides information regarding higher education in India and abroad, job opportunities available in the market through its notice board, emails and brochures. It also extends its services by offering various trainings to the students on personality development and career development skills, etc.
