Dr. BR Ambedkar National Institute of Technology (NIT-Jalandhar)

 Dr B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology was established in the year 1987 as Regional Engineering College and was given the status of National Institute of Technology (Deemed University) by the Government of India on October 17, 2002 under the aegis of Ministry of Human Resource Development, New Delhi. Now the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India has declared the Institute as “Institute of National Importance” under the act of Parliament-2007. A large number of reputed Industrial houses in the country visit the Institution and select the final year students as Engineers/ Management Trainees. As one of the National Institutes of Technology (NIT), the Institute has the responsibility of providing high quality education in Engineering, Technology and Sciences to produce competent technical and scientific manpower for the country. The Institute offers BTech, MTech, MSc, MBA and PhD programmes in the several disciplines of Engineering, Technology and Sciences.

Campus

Selection process
 Admission to the institute is based on the rank one scores in the JEE-Main, which usually takes place in May.  The other criteria include 60% in 10+2, with PCM.  The college reserves 50% seats for local students and 50% for others.  Once selected, classes usually begin in the month of July.
Infrastructure
The institute is among the newer NITs, and it is still a work in progress. The infrastructure of the institute is already one of the best amongst other NITs. The institute boasts of a state-of-the-art mega-hostel which houses around 1600 students. The laboratories are well equipped, but the library is found wanting for infrastructure and books both. Sport facilities are absolutely fantastic, and the institute has floodlit grounds for most sports. The mess is pretty good, and the food is edible, but it is certainly not the butter chicken that people wish it to be.
Placement

Students of all B Tech disciplines are required to undergo industrial Practical Training after the 6th semester of B Tech Programme. The centre helps the students in arranging their training in the industry.

General

In addition to the above-mentioned activities, the CTP arranges expert lectures of Corporate Managers in both Technical and HRD streams for the students and faculty of the Institute. Various Workshops, Symposia and Seminars maintaining directory of Industries, information regarding latest technological developments, research and development Centers, etc.
