CHRIST (Deemed to be University)

Christ University was born out of the educational vision of St Kuriakose Elias Chavara, an educationalist and social reformer of the nineteenth century in South India. He founded the first Catholic indigenous congregation, Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI), in 1831 which administers Christ University.Established in 1969 as Christ College, it undertook path breaking initiatives in Indian higher education with the introduction of innovative and modern curricula, insistence on academic discipline, imparting of Holistic Education and adoption of global higher education practices with the support of creative and dedicated staff. The University Grants Commission (UGC) of India conferred Autonomy to Christ College in 2004 and identified it as an Institution with Potential for Excellence in 2006. In 2008 under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, the Ministry of Human Resource Development of the Government of India, declared the institution a Deemed to be University, in the name and style of Christ University. One of the first institutions in India to be accredited in 1998 by the NAAC, and subsequently in 2004 and 2016, Christ University has the top grade ‘A’ in the 4-point scale.

Ranking

The college has always been ranked amongst the top 10 colleges in India in management, arts, science and commerce streams. It has been ranked at the topmost position for its courses in management. It has consistently maintained the 6th position in the country for its arts, science and commerce courses.

Campus

The college campus is spread over a large area of 25 acres which is part of the 100-acre Dharmaram college campus in the central part of Bangalore city. In 2009, Christ University opened a campus spread over 75 acres at Kengeri on the Mysore highway which houses the Faculty of Engineering, PU residential college and the Christ University Institute of Management (CUIM). The main campus is located in the heart of Bangalore, while the Kengeri campus is a lush green campus by the Mysore highway.

Library

Library is the soul of any institution. It is a center of acquiring, processing, preserving and disseminating information to the user community with the motto of empowering knowledge, Christ University library has well trained staff and an automated library system to enrich the user community with a wide range of academic resources such as books, periodicals, online periodicals, databases, back volumes, CDs/DVDs, project reports, audio / video cassettes, and question bank.The Library has 250 terminals with high-end computers for high-speed internet access. Students can browse, access Learning Management System, download journal articles etc. on these systems. A separate provision have been given for laptop users.

Placement
The Placement Office facilitates the students to explore the world of employment and new career avenues. It also helps students in career planning through counseling where in they gather information about themselves in terms of their interests, aptitudes and abilities so that they can choose their career more effectively. The objective of the Placement Office is also on the professional development of the students by training them towards employability skills such as resume building, group discussion and interview skills which in turn helps the students to move into a desired occupation and/or apply in prestigious postgraduate and professional schools.The Placement Office takes the initiative to explore new career avenues for graduates and post graduates through visits to new companies and unexplored sectors. Campus recruitments are organized every year. The selection process generally starts with a pre-placement talk in which a firm/organisation gives the students insights into the company profile, job profile, career path, CTC etc. which is followed by the actual selection process i.e., written test, group discussion, interview etc. The University has state-of-the-art facilities that make campus recruitment a pleasant experience. Student placement representatives from each class are also present to provide assistance throughout the selection process.
