Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute

Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMRCI), formerly called Bangalore Medical College, was established in 1955. It was started as a private medical college by the Mysore Education Society. It is affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. The college offers 2 courses in medicine and healthcare at the undergraduate level. There are around 250 seats in the medicine course and around 50 seats in the course in nursing. Admission to the medicine course is through the NEET  entrance exam. Classes commence from July onwards.

Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute has consistently been ranked in the top 10 medical colleges of India and as the best medical college of Karnataka. In 2017, BMC was ranked as the 12th best medical college by India Today's Magazine and also Ranked 12th By Outlook.

Admission to the college is extremely competitive. Out of the 250 seats, 85% admissions are through NEET Entrance Exam.
Location Information
The college is located on KR Road, close to the city market in central Bangalore. It is well-connected to other parts of the city by bus.
Campus Infrastructure
The college has a well-maintained campus with modern infrastructure. The lecture rooms are spacious and air-conditioned. It has a century-old well-organised teaching hospital known as Victoria Hospital established in 1906. Other teaching hospitals such as Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospitals, Vanivilas Hospitals, Institute of Ophthalmology, and Venkateswara Institute of ENT are attached to the college as teaching hospitals.
Library
The college’s library and information centre is located in an independent block. It has 2,270 sq. ft. of floor area spread over two floors with provision for textbooks section, reference section, stock area, back volume area, periodical section, dissertation section and an audio/video section. It also has a reprographic section, computer workstation with internet facility and access to e-resources, a librarian office, technical section and a book reading area.
Sports Activities
The sports committee at the college organises various intra college football, cricket, athletic, table tennis, volley ball and many other indoor games, e.g. chess, carom etc. An “Annual Sports Day” is held to felicitate all those who have won in the various games.
Attendance
The college is fairly liberal in terms of attendance. Generally, 60-65% attendance is acceptable. However, the college recommends an attendance of above 80%.
