Admission Tips USA Universities

The Universities in the US admit students twice a year – in January and September. The admission tips suggested below will help all aspiring students seeking admission to US universities:

  • Students should begin applying to colleges preferably 12 months in advance as most Universities announce deadlines for applications which is usually 8 to 9 months prior to course start date. So the sooner you apply the better it is.
  • Appear for the standardized tests you are required to (like SAT, GRE, GMAT, TOFEL or IELTS) and have the scores with you before you begin applying. This will make the admission process faster and smoother.
  • For Undergraduate programs: Student studying in class 11 can also apply for undergraduate studies based on his/her class 11 marks.
  • For Postgraduate programs: Student studying in a bachelor’s program and are in their final year or last semester can apply for the masters program based on current percentages.
  • Many Universities prefer ETS and WES score reporting. The student should be aware of this before applying to the Universities.
  • Its not only the academic percentages or the standardize test score that counts, but also a strong Statement of Purpose and a Reference Letter that will help students get the admission. The following tips should help you write your personal statement.

Personal Statement:

The following are couple of points to be included while preparing personal statement
  • What are your reasons for applying to the chosen course?
  • Why do you think you are suitable for the course?
  • Does your prior education qualification relate to the chosen course?
  • Why are your reasons for choosing the university or college?
  • List out your skills and achievements, if any
  • Link extra-curricular activities if any to the proposed course of study
  • List out  work experience if any (it may be voluntary work, relevant to your chosen course)
  • Reasons for why you want to study in the US
  • Mention future plans – after completing a university course, explain how you want to use the knowledge and experience you will gain.
